One of my students is descended from the Shimadzu family who used to be the feudal lords in kagoshima. Recently she gave me some tickets for the Chrysanthemum festival held at Isoteien every year. Isoteien used to be the home of the Shimadzu lords and it is a very beautiful old garden with an amazing view of Sakurajima. The weather was great yesterday so Masako (who is a student/ friend) and I decided to take advantage of the nice day and go and check out the festival.
They had alot of great flowers, including some bonzai chrysanthemums which I thought were really cute!

They also had some great displays with figures made by local high school students.

Aside from the chrysanthemums the gardens themselves are beautiful and very traditionally Japanese. Joey was unimpressed though...

I will post more pictures tomorrow. I also have a story about my MIL but Daisuke is obviously unable to cope with our newly mobile son so I should probably go and help him! LOL!
