D`s best man had a birthday party for me at his place on saturday. I know I am going to sound terribly ungrateful because he went to alot of effort and got mer a really nice photo frame as a present but it really wasn`t that much fun. Jenn couldn`t make it because she got a bad stomach bug so it was just me, D, my friend Hisano and her husband and our host (and Joey of course). We had nabe which was yummy and it was nice to see everyone but I guess like christmas, it all felt a little bit lacking in spirit! Maybe it was the lack of alchohol, who knows!!!
I had asked D to get me a chocolate birthday cake but he didn`t bother to pay attention to me and order it so when we went to try and buy one, they didn`t have any chocolate ones, only normal ones. I had my heart set on a chocolate cake fix so we ended up buying two swiss rolls instead!! It was yummy but not quite what I had been looking forward to...
On monday D redeemed himself by deciding to cook the joint of lamb that has been sitting in our freezer for over a year!! I could never be bothered to do it so he decided to cook it as a belated birthday treat for me. I hate cooking but D actually enjoys it and is good at it, another reason we should move to the UK so he can be a house husband for a while!! ;-) The lamb came out really well and was very yummy so I forgave him for not ordering my birthday cake!!!
Seeing how easy it was has given me faith so I think that roast dinners might become a more regular occurence at our place! It is just a shame that joints of meat are so expensive/ hard to come by here in Kagoshima!! However, I have managed to convince my husband that in the UK, husbands make roast dinners every weekend so hopefully he will be volunteering more oten!!! ;-)
