WOO HOO!!!! It`s the weekend!!!
AND it is sunny today!! Which is ironic as a big typhoon is predicted to hit tomorrow but the weather is lovely at the moment! It is sunny and warm so I did a few loads of laundry this morning AND I took it upon myself to wash the carpet in our living room which is really filthy. I made the mistake of buying a very prety beige carpet (well actually I guess it is a big rug) to go under our dining room table- WHAT was I thinking!?!? I have a toddler in the house and should have remembered that beige carpets are something in my future and bought something dark that hides stains!!! Anyway, D was supposed to wash the carpet while we were away in London but for whatever reason he didn`t bother and I have been planning to take it to the laundrette and wash it in one of the big machines there until I talked to one of my friends (who clearly has too much time on her hands in hindsight) who has the same rug and she said she washed it in the bath. I was intrigued and figured I would give it a go but I was waiting for a hot sunny day and none were forthcoming!
This morning I finally decided today was the day because the floor was getting embarassing! Soooo I took the carpet and folded it up and stuck it in the bath, then I turned the shower on HOT and covered it with washing powder and water. I soaked it for a little while then turned it over and drained the first lot of water. THEN I jumped in the bathtub and stamped on the carpet until the water started running clean. Then I turned it over and did the same thing on the other side, re-folded and did it on the middle of the carpet and basically repeated the stamping (think old-fashioned wine-making and grape-stomping!!!) until the water was running clean. The next tricky step was to stamp all the water out of the carpet so I could take it out onto the balcony to dry!! I definitely got a work out this morning, who needs a stepping machine/ gym membership when you can wash carpets in the bath!! LOL! I was using muscles that haven`t seen the light of day recently and it felt kind of virtuous because not only was a cleaning, I was exercising as well!! That said, I don`t think I am going to be doing it again any time soon!! It is no wonder people were skinnier in the olden days, diet was definitely a factor but I think have to do all the washing and cleaning without electrical appliances was another reason! LOL!
After I hung out the carpet, I got into major cleaning mode and hoovered and scrubbed the floors in the living/dining room and kitchen. Daisuke is back from the Gym and I now have a free afternoon to myself. I am waiting for my friend Jenn to pick me up and we are off to lunch with our friend Setsu. I am really looking forward to a girly afternoon of chat and we are going to have a steak lunch at one of our favourite haunts!!! I am very excited!

Bout time you cleaned that rug! I still remember the day you drank all the soju from kacho's desk and jacked that oyaji for the rug.
Oh wait, that was a different blonde from England. Right then carry on.
Heh. Hey Midori, its Kanoya Steve from Texas, just wanted to sat hello. Has it really been 5 years since we both landed in Kags? Hope you, D and J are well. Ja ne
Your sunny day sounds like it was was wonderful!
I so love it when I get into clean mode and scrub the place clean. Not so fun doing it but it feels so good once it is complete!
Cleaning your rug in the bath tub sounds interesting. I've never heard of that before. For the reason you mentioned about the staining on the carpets, is the exact reason why we made sure our entire downstairs is either wood flooring for the living room or kitchen tiling for the kitchen and dining.However...I bought an area rug for the living room a few month's back. And it's beige as well ha ha ha! Lucky for us it has no staining yet. Ha ha ha! : )
Have a great time with your friends! I'm enjoying my weekend as well! Hurray for weekends! : )
PS, how funny, we all had steak over here at my house yesterday as well! Must have been something in the air yesterday! : )
